About Smiliemail Camera Clubwcc.smiliemail.org

The aim of the club is to encourage and promote photography as an art form.

The Workshop Camera Club meets every Wednesday night at 7:30PM. Meetings are held at the Canning Arts Centre on the corner of High Road and Riley Road, Riverton from the end of January until the end of November each year.

The first Wednesday of each month is an Exhibition night at which members’ projected and printed photographs are judged by either an internal or an external judge. There is a nominated Subject for each exhibition and members are allowed to submit a print and a digital image in both the Subject and Open categories. Exhibition rules can be downloaded here.

Other meetings are typically workshops, feature guest speakers or photographic presentations by club members. The club has a ceiling-mounted state of the art projector plus 4 metre screen. Meetings typically last 60–90 minutes and are followed by tea/coffee, biscuits and informal talk – a good way to learn and meet like-minded people.

The club has an extensive website which includes photographic Galleries showing images from past exhibitions as well as from our Special Interest Groups and club events. The website is also a repository for the club’s monthly newsletter, Dark Rumours.

Workshop Camera Club has an active Facebook page for club members to communicate and share images. However, all important information is also transmitted via email.

A fully equipped monochrome darkroom for printing using traditional enlargers for film photography up to medium format is available to all club members. An active Darkroom Special Interest Group provides orientation and instruction in darkroom practice.

The Club has an extensive modern library of approximately 400 photography books that members can borrow.

Over the past 25 years Workshop Camera Club, in conjunction with the Northern Exposure Photographers Group have been running a very successful Photomarket in February, July and October each year.

Visitors are welcome to attend up to three meetings with no obligation to join the club. International visitors are especially welcome!
